ЗАПРОС:

Dear administration of Pokerstars,

Could you kindly explain why there are so many coolers on

Pokerstars? I am a loyal Pokerstars player for more than a year and never

switched to any other online poker room, however the amount of insane

coolers and bad beats is improbable!

Couple months ago I started to conduct observations and take screenshots of

coolers I get on PS - amount is already enormous! Those are all hands where

even professional poker player couldn't get away from! I attached one of

them which happened to me just couple hours ago - the hand is absolutely

sick! And I have a whole bunch of examples like that!

I also consider myself pretty experienced and successful offline poker

player and can tell for sure that amount of coolers there is way much less

than here. Does it have something to do with your random hand

generator? Is it configured to bring high frequency of coolers and bad

beats? If so, I suppose this is not fair to the players, because it does not

allow us to win while following optimal poker strategy and causes a lot of

personal frustration.

Can you explain the situation and tell whether it is possible to minimize cooler

and bad beat frequency on PS?

Thanks in advance.

Sincerely,

Valeriy Kim (screenname

'a-studio').

ОТВЕТ:

Hello Valeriy,

Thank you for contacting us.

I understand your frustration. I play poker too, and bad beats can be

difficult to deal with. However, please keep in mind that bad beats are a

part of poker, and happen to all players, whether they play poker in a

casino, at PokerStars or any other online site.

PokerStars deals the cards in a fair and honest manner. Once the deck is

shuffled, it is set, and the order in which the cards are dealt cannot be

changed. The software that shuffles and deals the cards cannot control who

wins and loses; it just deals the cards and the rest is up to the players in

the game.

Our software produces a shuffle that is completely random, which favors no

player over any other. The methods we use ensure complete randomization of

the cards, and complete unpredictability of the cards to come. You can see

the description of these methods at:

http://www.pokerstars.com/poker/room/features/security/

We arranged for the largest consulting firm specializing in software

security and quality, Cigital, to review PokerStars' shuffle. Their

investigation found the shuffling be fair and random. You may read about

their analysis at:

http://www.pokerstars.com/poker/rng/

We encourage you to review your own hand histories and to perform your own

analysis. We have dealt over 50 billion hands and freely give real money

hand histories any time someone requests them. If you want, we can send you

a copy of every single real money hand history that you have played.

*Every* proper investigation of our shuffle has found the same thing: That

our cards are randomly shuffled. Many who have conducted such studies have

posted their findings to the Internet. You can find two of them here:

Further to your point about playing in Live venues such as Casinos, many

players who begin playing live poker before making the transition to online

often find that by comparison online poker can appear to be a little

"unreal" at first. However, there are some factors that need to be taken

into consideration when comparing playing online poker to live poker.

A major factor that can contribute to the perception that bad beats are more

common in online poker is the difference in the number of hands dealt in

comparison to live poker. We currently deal over 25 million hands every

single day. This is more hands than would be dealt in any large casino in a

year.

This means that we will deal a year's worth of bad beats, straight flushes,

and other "unreal" hands (such as set over set over set), all in one day.

Quads losing to quads in Hold'em is an over 5-million-to-1 occurrence, which

you will probably not see in a lifetime of casino play, but it happens to

someone on PokerStars every day. As such, it is natural that you will see

more bad beats than if you spent the same amount of time playing live. This

is not an indication that our software is somehow flawed, but merely a

reflection of the speed of online poker.

That is not to say that unusual things do not happen in live poker. In the

Hall of Fame $1500 No Limit Hold'em tournament Scotty Nguyen made quads

three times in the first seven hours of the event. At the 2002 WSOP $1,500

No-Limit Hold'em event Layne Flack beat Philip Marmorstein with quads over

quads at the final table. A few years ago in the WSOP main event, the

eventual second place finisher Sammy Farha turned a straight flush to

eliminate two players, one who had flopped quads and another who made a full

house.

Here are some bad beats videos involving players like ElkY, Marcel Luske,

Isabelle Mercier and Vanessa Rousso, and some bad beats from the European

Poker Tour telecasts:

We hope this information has given you a greater appreciation for the

strength of PokerStars' game integrity. If you have any other questions or

concerns, please do not hesitate to contact us again.

Regards,

Kiel
